“Come! We fly!” – Bette Midler, Hocus Pocus (1993)
By Night‘s featured Halloween film is on the gentler side this year with a Disney classic: Hocus Pocus (1993). Like myself, Hocus Pocus turns 30 this year. Instead of my usual formula with a summary, analysis, conclusion, etc., I am just going to list what I love about Hocus Pocus. We all know the plot and the characters, so let’s just take a moment on Halloween Night to celebrate the Sanderson sisters:
Things to love about Hocus Pocus:
- Nostalgic Halloween vibes
- The Sanderson sisters
- Introduced me to Salem, Massachusetts (I plan on visiting there in the next couple years)
- Sarah Sanderson’s entire style
- Reminds me to make apple cider on Halloween
- Memories shared with family and friends
- Lots of fun references for spooky content
- It has brought fun spooky season experiences and memories to audiences for 30 years

I have found myself watching Hocus Pocus more times as an adult than I did as a child. I simply cannot let a Halloween season go by without watching it at least a couple of times. Hocus Pocus is a pillar of Halloween for my generation, and it will remain that for us for a very long time.
Happy Halloween!
Until next time,
Jordan
