One sub-genre of horror we all love, but rarely turn the spotlight on, is game-play horror. Game-play horror happens when the conflict and violence of a horror film stem from a game or a set of rules. The experience is often created by an antagonist with the intent to control the decisions of others. Rules and a game-like setting are imposed on the victims, who must play along to survive or at least walk away unscathed. Game-play horror levels up the entertainment value while keeping a relentless grasp on the audience’s attention.
This sub-genre of horror continues to inspire the question that has haunted horror fans for decades: What would you do?
