My reading list is a living thing at this point: constantly growing, changing, and evolving. 2021 has brought us so many amazing new titles, and there are still more to come. These are the spooky, mysterious, thrilling, yet-to-be-released titles I am looking forward to reading the most:
*
My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones

I added this book to my reading list as soon as I came across it. Stephen Graham Jones is one of my favorite horror writers. If that were not enough to get me on board, that title and plot description would have done the trick.
Expected release date: August 31, 2021
*
Halloween Party Murder by Leslie Meier, Lee Hollis, & Barbara Ross

Hear me out…cozy mysteries are fabulous. They may be corny and predictable at times, but they are a pleasant reprieve for horror lovers who want the dark elements of horror and mystery but need a break from the violence and terror. Expected release date: August 31, 2021
*
Cackle by Rachel Harrison

I have read a lot of witchcraft-inspired books the past year, but that did not stop me from starting a countdown for this one. I cannot wait to meet these characters.
Expected release date: October 5, 2021
*
A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow

If you enjoyed The Ten Thousand Doors of January and/or The Once and Future Witches, look out for this novella by the talented Alix E. Harrow, out this fall! It’s a dark retelling of Sleeping Beauty, and I am. So. Excited.
Expected release date: October 5, 2021
*
Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw

This book has been recommended to me on Goodreads for months now, and I finally got around to reading the synopsis. Horror films inspired by Japanese folklore are traditionally super scary and iconic, so I am so excited to read a horror novel composed from similar inspiration.
Expected release date: October 19, 2021
*
The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling

I love a good Gothic tale, as I’ve discussed many (many) times in previous posts. After reading the synopsis for this book, it sounds like a feast of all the things about Gothic literature I love.
Expected release date: October 19, 2021

Trashlands by Alison Stine

I happen to know the author in real life (what’s up, fellow former Athens resident!!), and I am forever blown away by her magnificent storytelling. Set in apocalyptic Appalachia, this novel is sure to be a fun ride. If you are into dystopian fiction, be sure to check out Road Out of Winter by Alison Stine as well.
Expected release date: October 26, 2021
