In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, I wanted to turn the spotlight to an indispensable entity of horror: Asian horror cinema. Asian horror films and thrillers have broken the mold time and time again for decades. They are often remade in English-speaking productions, which unfortunately primes the erasure of their originality and artistry. These films, rooted in rich storytelling, culture, and the human experience, deserve to be celebrated as they are. The works listed below are my favorite horror films and thrillers by filmmakers of Asian cultures.
